The lecture engages into psychoanalytic treatments of imagery and the scopic, especially with reference to Jacques Lacan and Slavoj Zizek.



W. J. T. Mitchell is distinguished Professor of English and Art History, University of Chicago. He is editor of Critical Inquiry. Mitchell published the following world known books: Iconology: Image, Text, Ideology, University of Chicago Press, 1986; Picture Theory, University of Chicago Press, 1994; The Last Dinosaur Book: The Life and Times of a Cultural Icon, University of Chicago Press, 1998.
