invite to a mail art project by Vittore Baroni
 
After the successful presentation of the performance-défilé with over forty
artists’ hats “hats off to George Maciunas” as part of the BAU salutes
Fluxus event (Viareggio, may 26th 2007, the performance will be repeated on
June 9th at the Creativa festival in Rignano sull’Arno, catalogue to
participants at the end of June) the next project of the BAU cultural
association ( www.bauprogetto.it ) will be an exhibition of local artists
titled Contemporaneo Versiliese, that will take place between July 28th and
August 31st in the Palazzo Paolina, a prestigious museum in Viareggio that has
been one of the Italian houses of the favourite younger sister of Napoleon,
princess Paolina Bonaparte (Ajaccio 1780 - Florence 1825).
 
My participation to this exhibition will include a collective project titled
“Ciao Paolina!”, an homage to this restless historical figure, wife of the
Roman prince Camillo Borghese and godmother to Camillo Benso count of Cavour, a
very beautiful woman who loved luxury and the court life, legendary for her
capricious attitude and her loose sexual habits, as combative on the bed as her
famous brother on the battle field, a combination of frivolous elegance and
sharp-witted female emancipation.
 
You are invited to modify creatively the image of the well known statue by
Antonio Canova (see attachment) that depicts Paolina Bonaparte as Venus, or to
create your own version of this masterpiece. The work in colour, in jpg at 300
dpi or preferably on paper size UniA4 (cm. 21 x 29,7, horizontal), should be
mailed before June 30th 2007 to: Vittore Baroni, via C. Battisti 339, 55049
Viareggio, Italy (or to vittorebaroni at alice.it). No selection, no returns, as
usual an illustrated catalogue of the project (Arte Postale! n. 92, including a
special artistamps sheet) will be mailed to all the participants. Do not forget
to include your postal address.
