it doesn't matter what it's called. but it's institutionalized and therein 
lies money, grants, blah blah blah just the idea of staying alive. well i 
get included but always through the backdoor, it's been that way almost 
since the beginning. re this event - the problem for me - sandy baldwin 
and i had worked out materials that would have taken 12-20 minutes to make 
sense of them. i don't think anything shorter or longer would have worked. 
anyway sandy came on, contacted me, i 'teleported' him to the location, we 
began working on the routine, and after something like four minutes, he 
was gone. so that was that. there were twelve performances scheduled in a 
single night over a four hour period, one every twenty minutes. we were 
10th and some ran over i gather and we were gone. so any sort of semantics 
got broke in pieces so to speak without even time for the edges to show. i 
was frustrated at my end. anyway people got a taste of the stuff i guess. 
if you're on sl and we're doing something or anyone's doing anything, it's 
very diff. than watching abstractly on a monitor. you can 'move around' 
the avatars, interact if that's what you want to do, it's live, i don't 
care whether it's new media or not but it feels new in the doing and the 
potential. but there has to be more openness and less definition and less 
politicing and even maybe some monies to go around so that people can 
actually teach, research, whatever with this stuff. for me, i worked maybe 
80 hours on this particular performance, and for what? four minutes? 
obscene.
