Vol. 81: Soundz From Germany 2005

In 1982, a movement known as the Neue Deutsche Welle (German New
Wave, below "NDW") kicked off in Germany. Apart from a number of
musically quite interesting ventures, "new wave" here refers
primarily to starting to sing pop songs in German, rather than
to the style that has become so hip again in recent years. Like
other "new" forms of music, NDW was properly evaluated as a
musical genre only two decades later, while the Ata Tak label
and such bands as Der Plan or the David Cunningham-produced
Palais Schaumburg, featuring The Orb member Thomas Fehlmann,
attracted attention with unique mixes of avantgarde pop and
German lyrics as early as 1979.

Space Echo Deluxe - SuperHybrid

Whereas musical works aiming at an "enhanced listening experience"
have been increasing in recent years, occasions to enjoy those in
appropriate settings are still rare. Buying a high-end stereo set
isn't something one can easily do en passant - well at least in
my case - so if you like good sound - like me - I recommend you
memorize the name "Space Echo Deluxe". In this installment koto
player Yagi Michiyo, who has released her work on the Tzadik label
among others, appears in two separate sessions, forming a trio
with Ingebrigt Flaten & Paal Nilssen-Love, and playing as "Trance
Koto Express" together with AO. The lineup further includes a
handful of other top class performers with a similar attitude,
among which also names such as Saigenji pop up.
