my nightmare that blood-darfur that blood-iraq

that i cannot bring myself to starvation
nor can i bring myself to sharp and injurious sense
i work in this village and i produce
one after another, these images
lurid and furious and stereotyped, i draw them
over and over again, from templates supplied
& that there is no face
& that there is no skin
& that of obvious consequence
of o violence! o melody!
