Maeda Keizo (producer, Conversation) vol. 005

On 1/18 I leave for Europe for the first time in a year, primarily
to accompany choreographer/dancer Kanamori Jo on his tour to
present his newest piece. Last year I received a request from The
Japan Foundation, asking me to plan a performance by Kanamori in
connection with the "Hommes et Robots" event, held at the Maison
de la Culture du Japon in Paris. We agreed, Kanamori worked out a
concept, began to prepare and rehearse in Japan from around October,
and now we're here for performances in Paris (1/22-24) and Budapest
(1/30-31 @ Trafo). We're showing a piece that features next to
Kanamori himself five members of his new dance company, "Noism04",
which he will launch this April, when he takes up office at Niigata
Ryutopia.

Goto Shigeo ("Tokyo Gathering") Vol. 008

January-February is the season of examinations. I'm getting lots
of applications for my ASP (Art Studies & Production) classes at
Kyoto University of Art and Design, and while that's good news
for me, it makes it quite difficult for the students. We've been
reorganizing everything fom curriculums to teaching staff during
the past year, and I'm really happy with the results. My aim is
it to foster human resources to curate and manage art projects,
and spread the word of art and its power in society.
Fuku Noriko will return from New York to take charge of curriculums
on visual thinking (in conference with Amelia Arenas), and it's
going to be a great program!

Shuttle 358 Japan Tour

As you might know already from the Taylor Deupree-designed flyer
presently in circulation, Dan Abrams aka Shuttle 358 is visiting
Japan. The distinguished creator of strikingly beautiful sounds
in the realm of electronic music has released works on such labels
as 12k and Mille Plateaux, and Cubic Music sponsors this Japan
tour. With the launch of their sub-label cubicfabric in 2003, the
"cubic" people are focusing more on the "textures of music" that,
carefully crafted, strike with a gentle impact. By these terms,
Shuttle 358 is probably the best in its genre at the moment.
Watch out also for cubicmusic's forthcoming remix album.
