Vol. 078: Memento Mori Building II
by Ozaki Tetsuya

(continued)
Mori Art Museum director Elliott explains, "I did not discuss the
piece with (Tsuzuki) beforehand. Pier Luigi did. What we wanted
was an ironical work on Happiness. This is what Tsuzuki was told
when we asked him to do the work. The word 'controversial' in
this context was never used. In our view, what Tsuzuki eventually
presented to us was neither ironical nor about happiness.
That is why we declined it."

(2) Event Pick of the Week

Casanova
by Oz

This piece is produced by Pappa Tarahumara's Koike Hiroshi and
features dancer Kondo Ryohei from Condors, with music from
Hikashu's Makigami Koichi, "sound poet" Jaap Blonk and Jew's
harp performer Albina Degtyaryova. All these get together to
tell the story of famed man of pleasures, Casanova! With his
own theatre company, Koike is often collaborating with creators
from other fields, and here he introduces again a combination
of artists that is out of the ordinary. Don't expect too much
from the jumbled story, but rather focus your eyes -- or better
ears -- on the voice performances. The trip to Tsukuba is quite
a journey, but as an event that will stimulate your sense of
hearing after the holiday season, this one is highly recommended.
