1) Dance x Video = Dance
Video: A Crossover of Body
and Machine
A dance video screening
hosted by home-grown
independent choreographer/
dancer Dick Wong will be
shown at Nagu Pang Sue Yuen.
Excerpts of dance videos

Jumping Frames video dance

2) Cattle Depot Summer Days
& Nights Art Festival
After the success of the
Cattle Depot Open Day held
in November last year, the
residents at Cattle Depot
Artist Village are
presenting a bigger event to
local audience, with the
support of Bloomberg, a
global, multimedia news and
information company.
With about 20 separate
shows, exhibitions and
performances during the
five-day festival (27 Jun-1
Jul), Cattle Depot Summer
Days & Nights Arts Festival
promises a dynamic array of
contemporary art, vibrant
performances and city
culture.
On the opening night (27
Jun, 7pm), Videotage’s
Artistic Director Ellen Pau
teams up with young composer
Kar-fai Young to present a
Video and Quartet
performance. Riding on the
festival opening, Videotage
will introduce a multi-media
group exhibition by a group
of local designer (see below

3) Videotage presents WE
exhibition @ Cattle Depot
Art Fest
WE exhibition has brought
together 16 young local
designers from different
background and design
disciplines to showcase
their personal artworks at
Videotage. The collection
includes illustrations, web
projects, snapshots and
interactive installation.
The designers featured in WE
represent a new breed of
creative professionals in
Hong Kong. Every one of them
has different personality,
expertise, style and
artistic direction. Come and

4) The 50th Venice Biennale
featuring Hong Kong Artists
After last year’s successful
debut, the Hong Kong Arts
Development Council (ADC)
presents once again under
the name “Hong Kong, China”
the works of Hong Kong
artists at the Venice
Biennale. The theme for this
year’s exhibition is
“Navigating the Dot”
developed by Para/Sire Art
Space. The artists made use
of a matrix of intersecting
channels to form a symbolic
link between Hong Kong,
Venice and the international
art scene. In the matrix,
visitors are free to walk or
wander around, using their
own ways to explore the
uniqueness of Hong Kong art.

5) Fair Play Video Festival
@ PLAY Gallery, Berlin
Fair Play is the first video
competition organised by
PLAY Gallery, Berlin. Hong
Kong artist Stella So's Very
Fantastic has been chosen to
compete with 18 other
international videos. All
the videos are currently
shown as an exhibition
series at PLAY. The winner
of the competition will be
awarded a solo exhibition in
2004 at PLAY, plus the
publication of a book by
Fine Arts Unternehmen Books.

8) Digital Pluralism: UNESCO
Digital Arts Award 2003 @
IAMAS
Organised by IAMAS (the
acronym for the Institute of
Advanced Media Arts and
Sciences and the
International Academy of
Media Arts and Sciences in
Gifu, Japan) and the UNESCO
Digi-Arts Portal, Paris,
“Digital Pluralism––UNESCO
Digital Arts Award 2003 at
IAMAS” aims to promote
digital art as an innovative
and artistic reflection on
our information society. The
award consists of a total of
USD 10,000 money award and a
6-month artist-in-residence
stay at the IMAS. Deadline:

9) German Video Dance
Production Award 2003/04
The German Video Dance
Production Award 2003/2004
is currently calling for
artists to participate in
their two-part competition.
In part I, an international
jury of artists and TV
producers will meet in Sept/
Oct 2003 to select six
entries, awarding them
sponsorship prizes of 3100
euros for the production of
pilot videos. In part II, in
February 2004, the jury will
select the final winner from
the pilot videos. Supported
by SK Stiftung Kultur,
Cologne, Kunsthochschule fur
Medien (KHM), Cologne, PACT
Zollverein Essen and
Kunststiftung NRW. Deadline:

Calls for Papers
Young Women’s Forum is now
recruiting paper and visual
submissions on gender and
