L FACTOR

Call for proposals

In its third incarnation, Exit Art has moved to a spectacular new 

17,000 sq. ft. space located on the ground floor and lower level of

475 Tenth Avenue on the corner of 36th Street. We will be closed this 

summer for renovations and will reopen in the Fall with a major 

interdisciplinary exhibition L FACTOR, that will include visual art, 

film, literature and music.

Exit Art is looking for emerging artists of Latin American and Spanish 

Caribbean descent who are living and working in the United States to 

participate in L FACTOR opening late October 2003.

The exhibition is a response to the tremendous influence that Latin 

culture (music, food, literature, film etc) has had on mainstream 

American culture. 

For L FACTOR we are asking artists to choose a Latino

historical/cultural/pop icon/hero that influenced American culture and 

create a conceptual portrait of this person (i.e. Cesar Chavez, 

Arturo Schomburg, Carmen Miranda, Desi Arnaz, Oscar de la Hoya, 

Jennifer Lopez, etc.). Artists need to be able to work conceptually and

collaboratively.

Please submit a drawing and one page description of your proposed 

project, and up to 10 slides, one video or one cd of your current work 

with a SASE (for the return of your materials) no later than June 30, 

2003 to:
