On Paper is the first multiple authorship release in Crónica. Call it a compilation if you like... Ten artists were invited to reinterpret Pedro Tudela's recordings of torn paper, not in a "remix" process because there wasn't really anything to remix, but rather to take Tudela's concrete recordings as the prime matter to produce something new. So: take the sound and the concept and please work from there.
The outcome of this ended up exceeding our expectations and Crónica found itself releasing it's first double CD.
It is never too much so, again, we must state how deeply thankful we are to all the artists that invested their time and talent to produce this:

When working on a piece about "collage-décollage" I collected several heaps of posters found in walls around the city.

At the time I was interested in a matter with an enormous load of informational pre-concept, lived and changed both by human imposition as through the accidental will of nature.

Paper is a plain matter that can be expanded in space with a few meanings, among which are surface or support. If matter is manipulated as media, then we get results that reflect the question of the action and of the space with same effectiveness. That amount of printed papers extends and amasses intentions that are gradually changing without seeming to deny what they were, both visually as conceptually.

With any of these positions, paper is not loosing the information that it originally borne, therefore i believe that it's possible to accept that paper is a matter that stacks information both by layering and conjugation.

At a subsequent step I decided to explore, with sound recordings, the same concept of manipulating matter, acting and imposing the separation of the parts in different scales of action. Rips of different sizes and speeds made discoveries and placed on another level of reading both the information and the realities contained in one same object. The outcome contains a new image, inevitably close to the generic concept of paper but with a strong element of space and time imposed by the performance.

This is the recording that was both media and motive for the work, now decomposed in different wills; a work that goes trough addition, submits itself to subtraction and goes back to adding new facts.

Vitor Joaquim and Miguel Carvalhais met Sergi Jordá in Barcelona for a live performance in the Sidecar club on May 6th. They will get together again for a second performance in Lisbon.
This time they will be joined by Mr. Return, who'll perform realtime visuals for their music.
Sergi Jordá works since the beginning of the nineties in multimedia projects, installations and performances, often collaborating with other visual and performing artists such as Konic Thr (IO-Zn and Kapsula-K), La Fura dels Baus (F at ust Music On Line and DQ), Cristina Casanova (web-DQ) and Marcel.li Antunez. His main research lines are sound/image interrelation (the Video Choreographer software), computer music improvisation and collective music composition through the Internet (F at ust Music On Line). Miguel Carvalhais is a musician and designer based in Porto, active in multiple projects such as revdesign.pt, @c and [des]integração. Vitor Joaquim has just released his new CD 'La Strada is on Fire' in Crónica and produced two tracks for 'On Paper', now being released. Return is an audioimage militant, an intermedia researcher, seeking for ways to generate meaning @ the intersection/collision between the aural/visual layers/worlds.

Summer is coming! Before lying in the sun, Crónica's distributor Matéria Prima will land @ Sónar in Barcelona.es carrying all this year's releases. Look for pre-release copies of "On Paper" there, before the official release in early July.
In the meantime the sunny months will be spent preparing new releases for the end of the year. Stay tuned from October onwards.
