Mr. Askew went askew

Bloomberg was angry - an episode more likely to be reported from 
places like Afghanistan or Serbia, happened right here in his New 
York, in the center of the world - shooting in the City Council. 
Some Mr. Askew just went the way of his last name and shot a 
council member yesterday. Then he was killed by a cop assigned 
to the council security. Unbelievably in post-911 New York city, 
Askew smuggled a gun into the council chamber. He avoided the 
metal detectors by sticking to the councilman Davis, that he was 
about to kill, shooting Davis in his back. Councilpersons did not 
have to pass through detectors - until today - Bloomberg swiftly 
changed that rule in response to the shooting. Davis lived with an 
impression that Askew was his friend, although Askew was 
secretly filing complaints against Davis behind his back, and 
ultimately killed him. What a chilly, slithery story.
