Goto Shigeo ("Wasteland") Vol. 004

August 1-20
I'm frequently asked what kind of topics I'm most concerned about
as an editor. The three keywords I usually offer people as an answer
are "environment," "reset of lifestyle" and "art and imagination."
That's because I believe that these three are the things in which
people are going to find most motivation in the future, and that
they will have the strongest influences on their thoughts and
actions. I'm actively engaging myself in the conception and planning
of projects related to these topics. "Environment" is what "code" is
about, the project I'm doing together with Sakamoto Ryuichi and
others, and with Hattori-kun from graf, Osaka, I'm recently holding
workshops on the "lifestyle" theme (we just did a small one at Otaru
in Hokkaido).

Electronic Pub #19

To make music while living with a flock of sheep in the
countryside sounds like quite a nice lifestyle. "Why Sheep?"
-- that's this artist's name and probably the question he's
frequently asked -- has studied contemporary classical music,
and his career includes among others an assistant's job for
former YMO man Hosono Haruomi. Now he lives with his sheep
somewhere in the woods and produces a highly interesting musical
mixture, containing elements of both contemporary classical and
dance music, realized with computers and sequencers, but also
with acoustic instruments such as saxophone and others.
"Why Sheep?" just released another sample of his art in form of
an exciting album titled "The Myth And I," and while this is a
recommendation for home listeners, for those who dig good live
concerts here's a chance to catch an especially unique one.
