   THE DANUBE STREAMING SHOW
Veronika Dreier, Doris Jauk-Hinz, Eva Ursprung

The Danube is the second largest stream in Europe, and the only big
European river flowing from West to East. Having its source-rivers Brigach
and Breg in the Black Forest in the Southwest of Germany, it flows after
2850 km into the Black Sea (in the Ukraine), passing Germany, Austria,
Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania and Moldova.

Before NATO’s bombing campaign in Serbia in Spring 1999, which destroyed
two bridges in Novi Sad, the Danube was one of the most important shipping
routes in Europe. It was a lively connection between different cultures
and political systems, between East and West, Europe and Asia Minor.

The remnants of the bridges are still not removed from the water, and they
block traffic on the river. Now, in 2002, the economy along the Danube
slowly starts to recover, but trade still is not really 'flowing'. Not so
many years ago, travel by ship between Austria, Hungary and Yugoslavia was
quite usual, but now there is no public transport on some parts of the
   Danube. Communication is disrupted.

The Danube Streaming Show intends to make an artistic contribution to the
revival of communication and exchange along the Danube. A team of women
artists is travelling by ship from Vienna to the Black Sea, exploring
which ways of transport are still possible.

More importantly, W.A.S. wants to connect with artists in all these
countries, to learn about their work and their points of view about their
   own homeland.
Artists living along the Danube are asked to produce a 'souvenir': some
small artwork expressing the most typical / important / annoying / funny
/ sad ... features of their own country. These works will be exhibited in
Forum Stadtpark Graz / Austria in March 2003. Additionally, a catalogue
will be produced, featuring all artworks contributed, as well as
   documentation of the whole project.

The following stops to meet artists are planned so far:

   - September 28th: 10:00 Start in Vienna
   - September 28th, 19:00 Galerie Buryzone in Bratislava
   - September 29th, 19:00 'Folyamat Galeria', Budapest
   - October 1st, 19:00 kuda.org Center for New Media, Novi Sad
   - October 3rd, 19:00 Remont, Belgrade / radio B92

Further presentations / meetings will be in Rousse (Bulgaria), Braila
   (Romania) and Moldova.

From time to time, soundfiles are sent to radio helsinki, a free radio in
Graz, and there will be an online sound-streaming between radio helsinki
and radio B92 in Belgrade on October 4th.
