Situationism and popular culture

Although there are lots of common elements between historical avant-garde
movements and popular culture, these relations are not enough explored. In
the last ten years, there were several theoretical works, and also numbers
of speculative books and interesting biographies of some protagonists of
situationist movement from the end of sixties and beginning of seventies.
Situationist international, international european movement of artists and
theoreticians, was founded 1957. Activities of situationist international
were theoretical and propagandistic, and directed towards analysis and
discussions on possibilities of changing contemporary society, culture and
art. They regarded student demonstrations in May '68 as embodiment of their
theories of spontaneous revolution.

Dragan Ambrozic, Dorcol, Beograd
