January 16 (Wed)

I'm attending a party to celebrate the publication of editor Goto Shigeo's
"Dokutoku
Rojin" (publ. by Chikuma Shobo) at the Word Hall in the Ginza Shiseido
Building.
I know Goto since my school days, and his latest book is a collection of
interviews with
Japanese creative, old people (rojin), which took him twelve years to
finish. Some of
the interviewees have passed away in these twelve years, but since many of
those that
are still alive and kicking are present at the party, the audience is
uniquely colorful.
There is a stylish live set by the "Mama!milk" duo, and an especially
strong impression
on me leave Goto's speech about his search for his late teacher, and
"Hanatsubaki"
editor Omata's illustration of Goto's 'royal road.' As a member of the
alternative part of
the publishing business myself, I'm quite concerned about what the two are
saying.

(3) Event Pick of the Week

The last chance:

Shintokumaru

Here comes a remake of the pieces where the sensational, good-looking boy
actor,
Fujiwara Tatsuya made his legendary debut in a Ninagawa-directed work - in the
leading role! With an all-nude scene (from behind)! In London! It is
adorable how
sensually yet fantastically he plays Shintokumaru, who, trapped in a love
relationship
with his stepmother, sets off for a journey through hell. Playing the role
of his stepmother,
the second leading part in this play, is Shiraishi Kayoko. The terrific
acting and furious
looks of Shiraishi, who is about to turn sixty, makes you scared of being
eaten alive,
and this is an absolute highlight of this piece! The area of 'lady killer'
Tatsuya's strikes
is wide, and he is probably going to lull in also the female part of the
audience.
