SYMPOSIUM: SERVECITY - LIVING AND WORKING IN THE INTERACTIVE CITY || Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, October 12th to 13th October 2001 || Services were considered to be the future of urban development in the 20th century. || Now interactive media rationalise the service sector. || They change our habitual patterns of communication, of space and time. || The spatial urban structure of the 20th century, the separation of working and living, of private and public is eroding. || How is urban space transformed, when the work place becomes ubiquitous, when services like finances and retail business turn into e-commerce, when private households are digitalised, when the private house becomes the place for working and everybody can create his or her own public sphere? || What will be the design of this collisions? || These questions will be subject to discussion on an international symposium addressing design and architecture, planning cultural studies, communication theory and economy. || The symposium marks the beginning of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation annual program 2001 / 2002, ServeCity. ||
