Ready to...
International Conference, Exhibition, Workshop, Screenings, Performances
Prague, October 3-8, 2001
Organized by the Internationales KünstlerGremium and the Foundation and
Center for Contemporary Arts-Prague.
On the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the Internationales
KünstlerGremium's a general meeting is being held in Prague to bring
together artists and art practitioners from around Europe and North
America, with the intent of building partnerships and sharing practical
knowledge and experiences. The program of events includes a series of
cooperative presentations, discussions, workshops, film and video
projections and an exhibition that will introduce new approaches for
improving the international contact network, facilitate communication and
the exchange of information, ideas and practices in the cultural field, and
survey new methods of presentation and theoretical study. Participants
include European members of the IKG, invited guest from Central and Eastern
Europe and guest speakers.
Funding for Ready to... has been made possible through support provided by
the Czech German Future Fund in Prague, the Open Society Foundation
Cultural Link Program, the Goethe Institut Prag, ArtsLink program CEC
International Partners, Ministry of Culture of Czech Republic, British
Council, and the European Commission, Department of Education and Culture.
Ready to…is being organized by: the Internationales KünstlerGremium and the
Foundation and Center for Contemporary Arts Prague, in cooperation with the
Goethe Institut Prag, National Gallery Prague Collection of Modern and
Contemporary Art, Krátký Film Praha, a.s., Český Národní Archiv, NoD

…Light Coils (LIVING ARCHIVES)

Screening of 3 works from media archives throughout Europe and North
America, presenting the artist's view of current social-political events
and issues.

A series of presentations on art education programs, facilitating creative
partnerships between artists and educators and strengthening the arts in
the public consciousness. Film presentation: Godfrey de Reggio (Evidence 1995)
Invited speakers: Peter Tomasz Dobrila, (Slovinia) director of the
Cultural Center Kibla, Maribor; Bohuslav Blažek (Prague) eco-sociologist,
Jaroslav Vančát (Prague) Media artist and theorist, Ute M. Reindl,

A series of presentations by invited speakers that focus on different
strategies, ideas and experiences in building cultural networks and
self-sustaining cross-border cultural initiatives.

information and communication system on the visual arts of Africa, the
Americas, Asia/Pacific, within the context of international art processes
and cultural exchange; Elmar Zorn, Society Imaginaire, video-presentation:
Art&Nature and Fundamente; Jerzy Onuch, (Kiev) Director of the Center for
Contemporary Arts-Kiev, and Treasurer of I_CAN network; Marta Smoliková,
Cultural Programs Coordinator at the Open Society Fund Prague; Walter van
der Cruisen (Amsterdam/Berlin), Media artist and theorist; Ryszard Wasko
(Lodz), artist and organizer, initiator of the international project

Projection of video-art from Eastern European archives.

Time: 6pm
Exhibition opening of "suitcase" works by IKG members, Czech artists and
invited guests from Central and Eastern Europe that focus on issues related
to mobile societies, global art and migration. Approximately 60 individual
works will be contributed to the exhibition at NoD gallery. Opening
performance by Ben Patterson. The exhibition will be open to the public,
between the hours of 12 noon and 10pm, until Oct. 24th

Venue: Auditorium of the National Gallery at the Collection of
Contemporary Art,

A mosaic of individual presentations by conference guests on their views
and reflections of remarkable and significant art and cultural events from
recent history, form a local and international perspective.

…THE LIVING ARCHIVE, Symposium I.
Venue: Auditorium of the National Gallery at the Collection of
Contemporary Art,
Veletržní Palace, Prague 7
Time: 10:15am - 12:15am and 1:45pm - 5:45pm
The Living Archive program, initiated by Chris Hill, media curator and
professor at Antioch College, USA, will present the media archive as a
specific cultural artifact and a critical reference point for a range of
contemporary artists' works. Archives give rise to discussions around
cultural identities, social--cultural contexts, and evolving ideas about
access to information.

Projection of films and videos from selected media archives from Croatia,
Russia, Poland, Hungary, USA and Germany.
Monday 8th October
…THE LIVING ARCHIVE, Symposium II.
Venue: Institut Francais Prag, Štěpánská 35, Prague 1
Time: 10am-12 noon and 4pm 6pm
Second part of the Living Archive symposium and workshop on the theme of
expanding, maintaining and integrating specific media archive forms -
presentations, discussion and projections.
Screenings will include works by Harun Farocki (Videograms), Judit Kopper
(TV Boris & Video Misha, Hungary), experimental films by the Aleininkovs
Brothers (Moscow, PhantomCinema), Viktora Kobrina (Moscow), Not Channel
Zero (USA), Michael Benson (Slovenia), the Vasulka Archives, as well as
selections from Eastern European media collections in Moscow, Wroclow,
Budapest, Kiev and elsewhere.
Invited speakers include: Zeljko Blace (Zagreb), Keiko Sei (Prague), Irina
Lavrukhina (Moscow), Joanne Richardson (Rumania/USA), Chris Hill (USA),
