STORM' - Pixxel Motion Art

Duration: 3 days (24th, 25th & 26th of February 2002 )

programme

Exhibition
Duration: 1 week
Funded by The National Arts Council

ASIAN Pub & Restaurant

'STORM'
is a compilation/ series of alternative artist's works whose works
are centralized around different approach in using media/s and
technology to create images of representational issues and ideas,
to communicate and to raise certain discourses on Art & Technology,
including animations & the internet, which is
a accelerated communicating media-tool in this 21st century.
While 'STORM' aim to reject the aestheticized art object, critique the meaning of
art, and attempted to find ways
addressing concerns far away from the confines of the art
gallery and elaborate system that support it, thus it aims to
encourage artists from conceptual art to body art, land art, performative art,
video/ digital art or sound art, installations, to create, participate, explore
and examine the overwhelming of media effect, reflecting on cultural and
political issues as well as their very own day-to-day experiences, to 'locate'
its subject. Therefore, this centre of communication aims to
provide a platform for individuals and various artists, both locally
and Internationally to participate and to experiment w/ image manipulations
through video (high-8 or digital format) or other related format, to feature the
subject matter within, which however is 'Space'.

Definition of 'STORM';
Violent disturbance of atmosphere with strong winds and usu.;
With thunder and rain or snow etc.; violent disturbance or commotion
in human affairs etc.; violent shower of missiles or blows; outburst of feeling
or applause etc.; direct assault on (and capture of) defended place etc.; rage,
be violent, bluster; move violently or angrily (storm out of the room).; full of feelings.
'STORM', a 'Storm-Centre' is a centre of storm or cyclone, subject etc. upon
which agitation is concentrated.

'STORM'
has a task of transform and counter-transform the viewer's 'world view'.
Participants will have to address their concerns over issues
surrounding the theme 'STORM',
and emphasized fully in the way they use representations to suggest
& imply connotations or denote some kind of occurrence happenings
surrounding this moment, which however is known to be disastrous by nature, to clearly
identified and projected in their piece. And subject-based Pixxel Motion Art
is the focus point in this event

Pixxel Motion Art
The screen pixel which is an acronym of picture element is the
smallest unit of colour in a picture on a computer or video
screen whose image offers some four million dots per second to
the receiver... The pixel lights of the industrialized world
(electrical power) are re-formed in the patterned light of the video screen - a
metaphor for energy as information transfer, but still at the service of the power structure.
The viewer of the screen mosaic, unconsciously reconfigures the dots into an abstract
work of art. The mosaic form of the screen image demands
participation and involvement of the viewer... The screen image require each
instant that we view and interpret the spaces in the mesh through tactility uses
of the viewer's interplay of the senses... increasing concerns with the interaction of art
and technology.

Documentation and Presentations
'Storm Centre' had intentions of including works by various multi-disciplinary
artists and Interactive-time-based works w/ audio-visual projections or
digitized documentation or other means of technology, to amplify and change
the perception of looking at things. It aim to establish a communicable network
between artist/ artist's work and their audience, resulting in an instant 'LIVE' communication.
