15th INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF CONTEMPORARY ARTS  –  CITY OF WOMEN / GLOBAL
SOUTH

Dearest!

Association for the promotion of women in culture-City of Women is beginning
its 15th International festival of contemporary arts- City of Women. This
year's theme is Global South and it presents political, economical,
geographical, and cultural constant of globalization and consequential
segregation. We have invited artists from all over the world, but mostly from
environments which are ruthless towards female artists, to participate in the
festival and expose this burning theme through cultural dialogue. Carefully
selected participants are well established and less known, but nonetheless
exceptional female artists, theorists and activists, who will take us on a
ten-day journey through different events and stages across Ljubljana.

The festival will open on October 9th at 7 p.m. in Kinodvor with a film Women
Without Men by artist and videoist Shirin Neshat, who received a Silver Lion
for best director at this year's 66th Venice Film Festival. The movie by Shirin
Neshat is also the beginning of this year's film program, selected by Vanja
Kalu&#273;er&#269;i&#263;. After the film, City of Women invites you to attend
the performance Bujrum - Help Yourselves by Leila and Lana &#268;maj&#269;anin,
Danijela Dugandži&#263; Živanovi&#263;, Alma Suljevi&#263; and Adela Juši&#263;
in Kinodvor Cafè, where you will have an opportunity to enjoy carefully
prepared specialties following war recipes. After the treat made in a
»something out of nothing« way, we invite you to attend a music performance by
striking and extravagant members of Chicks on Speed at 11 p.m. in Gala Hala. If
you arrive to Gala Hala earlier, or would like to stay after the performance,
there will be music program by DJ Sladka and DJ KAA.
