Orpheus beholds himself (diminished by nail with bacchantean ire) in Hebrus' glass. No tragedian's mask looks but comic beside his rictus. What was Orpheus before? No recollection, fruit of lyre's vines, can his voice coax. Horror in shades is Lethe's wave.
