if you notice the article just trails back into 1880s. all of them do,
because nothing is happening.

as afar as i know people going to iran take the train to the
Taftan-Zahidan at the border, then buses into iran going to mashhad in
the north - a pilgrimage site. as for afghanistan, things are too
risky - the kandahar-kabul highway is protected by NATO - so you can
imagine that the track would not stay intact for very long.

looks like iran is working on the zahidan-kerman-teheran route (how
much ?) which is the only bit missing in the transAsian railroad

the number of trains between Quetta and Zahidan, the capital of the
Iranian province of Balochistan. He said that currently only one train
ran between the two provincial capitals once a fortnight. He said that
not only had Iran agreed to increase the number of trains, it has also
shown interest in revamping the 361-kilometre Quetta-Zahidan railroad.

About 14 Mobile Medical Units are being made while Afghan officials
have been trained at institutes in Pakistan, he said, adding that work
on the Chaman-Spin Boldak Railway Link will be initiated and a TV
transmitter will also be supplied. Maluk Fakhar lauded the efforts and
