Multi-player Game with avatars of flesh and blood

Martin Butler presents four human avatars to play with. Log in at home with
your character of choice at www.mediamatic.net/girlfriend. Guide the avatar,
explore the space and find out what you can do with him or her. You can also
observe the avatars in their Analog Villa, at Mediamatic's exhibition space.

The rampant growth of online avatar communities such as Second Life and World
of Warcraft has enabled the creation of a personal online social and economic
existence. Simultaneously this triggers questions such as what the consequences
will be in 'first life'. Butler's project takes place on the border of reality
and fiction, of intimacy and anonymity.

The avatars of The Girlfriend Experience will be available every Wed, Thu and
Fri from 20:00- 23:00, from 26 January till 9 March 2007
On these days they can also be observed live from 18.00 till 23.00 at
