they can see it in you.
most of them won't say anything, but they know.
they can tell what's happened.
there's something in you that seems different.
you can tell when you look at them.
they act differently to you.
they seem somehow different but you can't pin it down.

all of you know they're going to die.
they don't have to say anything, it's taken for granted.
it's a smell you can't get rid of, everyone smells it.
you don't know where it comes from, but it's there.
it's from them, you're almost certain, you're sure they're
dead, or almost dead, you know it's not from you, there's
something in their eyes.

you can hear them behind you, but when you turn around, no one's
there and you think, no one's ever been.
