IN THE MIDDLE OF THINGS (where else?):

"sweeter from me," weepst her Jove, "is the rose blowzy
in the lulled snow"

Sainte-Beuve:

"blowzy rose" means a rose open fully, where it's heavy
and slightly ratty-looking, "lulled snow" means snow that is
no longer cold. "a blanket of snow" in the absolute sense...
as for the rest, "woodland, ashes" means "the rays"

Hippolyte Taine:

dewy am'rous false time where, ever fresh, the rose toils

IN THE MIDDLE OF THINGS (where else?):

Hippolyte Taine:

look polished as if suddenly, as tho they
