CROATIA: Tudjman's Orders to Expel the Croatian Serbs
Found

-The media report that, at the meeting on Brioni of
July 31, 1995, President Tudjman instructed the
military leadership to "strike in a way to make it
sure that the Serbs will practically disappear from
Croatia".

The transcript of talks that the late Croatian
President Franjo Tudjman held with political and
military leadership on July 31, 1995, on the Brioni
Archipelago, which demand that the Serbs disappear
from Croatia, was discovered in the Office of the
President.

The find was confirmed by President Stipe Mesic, who
claimed only couple of days ago that he had no
knowledge about the transcript whatsoever.

After a number of media stories on the issue, Mesic
established a special committee which located the
transcripts in the Archives of the Office of
President.

According to announcements from Mesic's office, the
transcript should be available to the public starting
today. Also, it will be available to the lawyers of
the Croatian generals Gotovina, Markac and Cermak, who
are accused at the ICTY on the basis of allegations
listed in the "Brioni Transcripts."

The media report that, at the meeting on Brioni of
July 31, 1995, President Tudjman instructed the
military leadership to "strike in a way to make it
sure that the Serbs will practically disappear from
Croatia".

The greatest confusion was created by the son of the
late president, Miroslav Tudjman, who first said that
the meeting was recorded on tape and later denied his
own statements claiming that he "couldn't remember"
what was said, although he was present at the meeting
as then head of intelligence services.
