Vol. 3: Ashino Kimiaki (NADiff)

For the third round of "Redesigning Tokyo" we invited Ashino
Kimiaki, who 30 years ago opened Art Vivant as a pioneering art
book shop and "the city's premier museum shop". Now Ashino's
flagship store is NADiff, which, located off Omotesando, is
renowned as a well of information on all things art. In his
close relationship to contemporary art Ashino has been involved
in numerous art projects himself, and certainly deserves to be
called a living witness of the transformations art and media in
Tokyo have gone through since around 1970.

Kubota Kenji (Curator, Art Tower Mito) Vol. 010

August 16-17
"Cafe in Mito 2004" closed, and I can finally take a few days
off. I spontaneously decided to climb Mt. Fuji, so without much
preparation I drive to 5-gome station, with the plan to climb
up to 8-gome. But once outside I realize that it's freezing cold,
and in the end I give up at 6-gome... There, out of the dense
mist that creeps along the hillside appears a prince on a white
horse. He smmiles at me while I'm shivering with cold, and after
this daydream-like experience I decide to come fully equipped
next time and try again.

sonarsuond tokyo 2004

The annual Sonar festival has made Barcelona the mecca for all
fans of cutting-edge music and art. In 2002, SonarSound was
established as an international edition that has so far traveled
several European countries, as well as Japan and most recently
Brazil. While the first Tokyo event two years ago wasn't much more
than an average techno/electronica party, this time's "sonarsound
tokyo" features an impressive lineup of roughly 30 artists from
around the globe. Appearing next to the likes of Carl Craig,
Akufen, and many more guests from abroad will be Rei Harakami in
a collaboration with former Dumb Type member Takatani Shiro, and
even Sketch Sketch show together with Sakamoto Ryuichi, in other
works another renunion of the legendary YMO! Don't miss it.
