RULES 2004
1. OBJECTIVE
"ANOTHER LOOK" is a short film contest organised
by Fondazione Laboratorio Mediterraneo (FLM) with
the support of the European Commission (Direction
General External Relations). The objective of the
contest is to favour mutual knowledge and
understanding between the peoples of the two
rivers of the Mediterranean through a "cinema of
proximity" supplied by cinema via Internet.
The subject for the short films and synopsis is
intercultural dialogue between the European Union
and the countries of the Southern river of the
Mediterranean: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan,
Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia and
Turkey.
The FLM will select 25 short films (which will be
awarded 560 Euros) and 5 synopsis (prize 2000
euros). The authors of the synopsis engage
themselves to make the short films. Selected
short films will be diffused on the Internet on
www.euromedcafe.org as from December 2004.
Particular attention will be given to those works that:
- Underline the importance of dialogue and
tolerance in the relations among peoples and
cultures;
- Give a new look, original and innovative about
themes such as integration, immigration, menaces
of conflict;
- Enhance the knowledge and understanding of
other cultures as a way to fight against
prejudices, clichés, stereotypes, sources of
conflicts and misunderstandings;
- Deal about collective imaginaries and mutual representations;
- Underline the diversity and richness of peoples
of both sides of the Mediterranean;
- Attach importance to the right to difference.
2. SECTIONS OF THE CONTEST
The contest comprises two different sections:
2.1. Section Short films on the theme intercultural dialogue
Selection of short films realised by European or
Mediterranean authors on the subject:
intercultural dialogue. Works must have to have
been produced after January 2000.
Prize An international jury will award 560 euros
to the 25 best short films. Selected films will
be accessible on the site www.euromedcafe.org.
Admitted genres: Fiction, documentary, Animation, Experimental Films.
Non admitted genres: Publicity, Games and works
which have already found distribution through the
Internet.
Duration: The duration of the short films must be
comprised between 2 and 15 minutes.
Formats: They can have been shot in video or film
or have been conceived specially for the Internet
in Flash. Films must be sent to the organisation
exclusively in video format: BETA, MINI DV, VHS
PAL/SECAM, DVD VIDEO, CD-R.
Languages: films must have been shot in one of
the following languages: Arabic, English French,
Italian, Spanish or enclose the translation of
the dialogues in one of these 5 languages.
Registration and dates: registration fees are not
required. Registration is limited to 4 films by
author, society, training institution of
independent director. Works must be sent by
courier and have the registration form enclosed.
The registration form must be completed and duly
signed.
All submissions must be postmarked no later than:
30th November 2004. Works to be received after
the date will not be accepted (the stamp of the
delivery company will attest the date).
Delivery modalities. Works must be delivered
through courier before the 30th November 2004 in
video format: BETA, MINI DV, VHS PAL/SECAM, DVD
VIDEO, CD-R to one of the following addresses :

The work must be accompanied by:
The registration form duly completed and signed.
This form may be downloaded from the site;
The dialogues of the film in Arab, English, French, Italian or Spanish.
2.2 Inspiration
Selection will be done on the basis of a one page
synopsis (maximum 1500 characters). Stories will
be inspired in one of the texts published on the
address www.euromedcafe.org.
Prize: an international jury will award 2000
euros to the best 5 synopsis. The amount must be
used for the realisation of a short film.
Finished works will be accessible through the
site www.euromedcafe.org
The winners of the prize engage themselves to
make the short film before the 15th December 2004.

Non admitted genres: Publicity or Games synopsis.

www.euromedcafe.org.
The limit date to send the synopsis is the 15th
October 2004. Registration forms to be received
after the date will not be accepted.
The limit date to send the short films to be done
from selected synopsis is the 15th December 2004.
3. JURY
The President of the Fondazione Laboratorio
Mediterraneo will appoint an international jury
to be integrated by professionals or
personalities of the cinema. This jury will
assess the short films and the synopsis.
The Direction of the contest will decide about
the eligibility of the works which may accede
(respect of the theme and the formats). Selection
criteria have been announced under title 1 of the
present regulation.
4. AUTHORISATION
The winners of the contest engage themselves to
authorise the Fondazione Laboratorio Mediterraneo
to host and diffuse the short film, its synopsis
and a photograph of the author freely on the site
www.euromedcafe.org.
5. SELECTION AND JURISDICTION
The participation in the contest "ANOTHER LOOK"
implies the acceptance without reservation of the
terms of the present regulations. Should there be
any interpretation problem from the present
regulation, the Italian version will be
considered final. Any issue relative to the
observance or interpretation of the present
regulation of these provisions will be decided by
the Courts of Naples, domicile of the promoter.
Organisers will ask authors whose works have been
retained to send a picture in *.j.peg or *.tif ,
300 dpi to be inserted in the site.
6. GENERAL DISPOSITIONS
Independent form the original format short films
will be exclusively presented on the internet on
the site www.euromedcafe.org in RealVideo (or
Windows Media).
Expedition costs (BETA, MINI DV, VHS PAL/SECAM,
DVD VIDEO, CD-R) will be on the chare of the
expeditor. BETA, MINI DV, VHS PAL/SECAM, DVD
VIDEO, CD-R will not be given back.
All films racist, pornographic or defamatory
content will be systematically refused. Authors,
production companies, independent directors or
training institutions who submit a work declare
that they own the rights to be diffused on the
Internet, musical rights included. They also
declare to have obtained all necessary
authorisations relative to the utilisation of
images included in the works
The direction of the contest "ANOTHER LOOK" may
take decisions relative to issues not foreseen in
the present regulation.
