"Das letzte Wort der Macht lautet, dass der Widerstand primär ist." (Gilles
Deleuze)

Der unauflösbare Zusammenhang von Macht und Widerstand, wie ihn Foucault und
Deleuze beschreiben, ist gerade an den Institutionen des Kunstfelds gut
ablesbar. Eine besonders exponierte Rolle spielen dabei jene
Kunstinstitutionen, die als Puffer den Einfluss von Staat und Kapital auf
kritische Kunstpraxen abblocken wollen, zugleich aber als Maschinen der
sanften Instrumentalisierung von Widerstandspraxen fungieren. Die Konferenz
soll Strategien und Allianzen zwischen Kunstschaffenden, Kunstinstitutionen
und progressiver Kulturpolitik diskutieren, die gerade in der zunehmenden
Auflösung des Wohlfahrtsstaates in der Lage sind, künstlerischer Kritik die
notwendigen kleinen Vorsprünge zu verschaffen.

Progressive art institutions function both as buffers against the influence
of state and capital on critical art practices and as machines of a soft
instrumentalisation of resistance. In the neo-liberal transformation process
of the welfare state the institutions seem increasingly to be losing their
role of fostering radical art practices: along with the financial
constraints, the financing bodies exert an increasingly direct influence on
the programs. What are suitable strategies and alliances between artists,
art institutions and progressive cultural policies, which are able to
reinforce the little onsets of artistic critique in the age of dissolving
welfare states?
