Vol. 084: Don't Stop The Dance
by Ozaki Tetsuya

An art event on the theme of the Osaka Expo was held in Osaka,
where I spent the weekend as part of a business trip. With
architect Kikutake Kiyonori and artist Yanobe Kenji among the
participants, it sounded like a very interesting happening, but
since I had decided to go and see the "Roppongi Dance Crossing"
(below: RDX) event at Super Deluxe, I returned to Tokyo.
I arrived at my office about an hour before the start of RDX,
and used the remaining time to check my emails. I found one
from RDX co-organizer Sakurai Keisuke, titled "Roppongi Dance
Crossing Canceled".

Tetsunishiku

Awarded a Grand Prix at last year's Yamagata International
Documentary Film Festival, now this fabulous movie comes to Tokyo.
"Tetsunishiku" is the Japanese name of the Shenyang region in
Northeast China that was erected during the Japanese occupation,
and abandoned after the industrialization. Divided into the three
parts "Factory", "Town" and "Rail", this film illustrates quietly
yet energetically the circumstances of the place's transfiguration.
The positive reviews tempted me to visit Yamagata and see the film,
and I was indeed impressed how well the director managed to create
an unobstrusive documentary from an objective viewpoint. It's a
monstrous movie of nine hours length, so be prepared to fall asleep
every now and then (just as I did). But to gaze at the credits
brings relief and a pleasant sensation of fatigue and accomplishment
at once.
