Differences & Representations.
Filmic Representations of Activist Praxes

In "Difference and Repetition" Gilles Deleuze develops the radical
substitution of the intertwined concepts of identity and representation with
the pair of terms difference and repetition. However, this has unfortunately
not been entirely successful in practice. This issue focuses on examining
filmic representations of activist praxes against the background of the
Deleuzian proposal. How do various approaches (from the principle of
"counterinformation" to the criticism of representation to complex attempts
to process difference) deal with the problem of representing constituent
power in film and video (and the respectively concomitant theories)? What
are the different political objectives of these different strategies? What
are possible positions from within to outside the movement and what are
their respective implications? What are appropriate filmic means for not
counteracting the differences of "multitude" through filmic unification? How
can the double meaning of representation ("depict", "stand for") be
subverted in film and video? Can a politics of representation be
instrumentalized for non-representationist aims?
