Gorgeous people die as do the stereotypical Œugly.¹ Everybody dies.²1 It has been argued, often in regrettably hackneyed ways, that creating art is about resisting the inexorability of death. Hannah Wilke's flamboyantly courageous feminist practice, from the early 1960s until her death from lymphoma in 1993, is testament to this notion that making art can sustain the subject beyond her bodily demise.
