Gúsztáv Hámos: zaterdag 24 mei om 21.00

De Hongaarse kunstenaar Gúsztáv Hámos geeft een presentatie bij zijn
videotape 'Fremdkörper-Transposed Bodies-Foreign Bodies' (27 min) en het
boek dat zojuist daarbij is verschenen. Dit project is tot stand gekomen in
samenwerking met de kunstenares Katja Pratschke. Van Hámos zullen ook nog de
volgende videotapes getoond worden: 
Luck Smith 1987 (5 min)
Berlin Retour 1996 (7 min)
Killer 1986 (8 min)
Hámos is op het festival te zien met zijn installatie 'Hammer on the Anvil'.

 Vertoning videotapes: Portraits
-------------------------------------------------

Donderdag 22 mei en vrijdag 23 mei om 14.00, 16.00, 18.00 en 20.00 

De vertoning van videotapes waarbij de kunstenaar vaak een sociaal portret
schetst van een bepaalde omgeving. Een voorbeeld hiervan is de video van
Ivanka Helena Bakker (NL) die drie weken in een complex in Hongkong verbleef
op zoek naar de verhalen van de bewoners, veelal criminelen, prostituees en
illegalen.  De volgende kunstenaars zijn aanwezig om hun werk nader toe te
lichten: 

Iratxe Jaio - 'A Twenty-Four Hours a Day Revolution'
Almagul Menlibaeyeva - 'Eternal Bride'
Ivanka Helena Bakker - 'Chungking House, de Luxe Hotel'
Sven Augustijnen - 'Le Guide du Parc'
Theo Eshetu - 'Africanized' en 'Blood is not Fresh Water'
André Colinet - 'Larguez les amarres'

Op zaterdag 24 mei om 20.00 zal een deel van het programma worden herhaald.

 Workshop Jean Michel Bruyère
-------------------------------------------------

Van 16 tot en met 26 juni organiseert het Gasthuis in samenwerking met het
Holland Festival een workshop o.l.v. de Franse kunstenaar Jean Michel
Bruyère. Het Gasthuis is op zoek naar makers: theatermakers, beeldende
kunstenaars, performers, filmers, schrijvers, choreografen etc. voor
deelname aan de workshop.
Tijdens het Holland Festival presenteert Bruyère zijn 'Enfants des Nuit'
waarin hij bezoekers door de nachten van Dakar leidt in een doolhof van
foto's, installaties, film en theater. Bruyère vestigde zich jaren geleden
in Dakar, waar hij een opvanghuis en opleidingsinstituut voor straatkinderen
opzette. Om de kinderen uit hun uitzichtloze situatie te halen en hen
perspectief te geven, biedt hij hen scholing in theater, acrobatiek en
beeldende kunstvormen. Met achttien kinderen en jongeren in de leeftijd van
8 tot 23 jaar heeft Bruyère zijn nieuwe project 'Enfants des Nuit'
ontwikkeld. Tijdens de workshop zal Bruyère samen met de deelnemers veelal
op locatie de achtergronden van illegalen in Amsterdam onderzoeken. In zijn
visie zullen grenzen tussen volken en landen in de toekomst meer en meer
vervagen. Asielzoekers zijn voor hem dan ook meer 'voorlopers' van de
statenloze wereldburger van de toekomst, dan dat zij 'hulpeloze'
vluchtellingen zijn. Aanmeldingen voor de workshop kan tot en met 25 mei
door een mailtje met een korte motivatie en je c.v. te sturen naar

Gúsztáv Hámos: Saturday 24 May at 21.00

The Hungarian artist Gúsztáv Hámos gives a presentation of  the videotape
'Fremdkorper-Transposed Bodies-Foreign Bodies' and the book that just came
out with it. This project came about with the cooperation with the artist
Katja Pratschke.

Hámos's installation 'Hammer on the Anvil' is also on the festival
programme.

 Screening videotapes: Portraits
-------------------------------------------------

Thursday 22 and Friday 23 May at 14.00, 16.00, 18.00 and 20.00 

Videotapes in which the artist often sketches a social portrait of a
specific setting. One example of this is the video by Ivanka Helena Bakker
(NL) who stayed three weeks in a complex in Hong Kong filming stories of the
residents - mainly criminals, prostitutes and illegals. The following
artists will be present to comment on their work:

 Workshop Jean Michel Bruyère
-------------------------------------------------

>From June 16 through 26 the Gasthuis organises in collaboration with the
Holland Festival a workshop under the direction of the obstinate French
artist Jean Michel Bruyère. Gasthuis is looking for makers: theatremakers,
visual artists, performers, filmmakers, writers, choreographers etc, for
participation in this workshop. During the Holland Festival Bruyère presents
'Enfants des Nuit' where he leads the visitors through the nights of Dakar
in a maze of photos, installations, film and theatre. 
In the coming years he intends to realise a large project concerning world
citizens of the future. In his vision, borders between people and countries
fade more and more. In his eyes asylum-seekers are the predecessors of the
stateless world citizen of the future rather than 'helpless' refugees. In
preparation of this project he will research, together with the
participants, the background of illegal immigrants in Amsterdam mostly on
location.
