goEast - 3. Festival of Central and Eastern European Film

On the coming Wednesday, March 26th, it is time: goEast, the festival 
of Central and Eastern European film, takes place for the third time 
in Wiesbaden. More than 300 specialist guests (journalists, 
directors, distributors, producers, politicians, archive heads) from 
East and West have announced their coming, in addition approximately 
6.000 visitors are being expected. In the sections contest, student's 
film contest, symposium, retrospective and highlights a total of 107 
feature and short films from Central and Eastern Europe will be 
presented, among them 15 topical international and German premieres 
as well as a world premiere. In the contest, nine feature films and 
six documentaries compete for the following awards: The main award 
"The Golden Lily" for best film, endowed with 10.000 Euros, the award 
of the city of Wiesbaden for best direction, endowed with 7.500 
Euros, and the documentary award of the charitable Hertie-Foundation, 
endowed with 10.000 Euros. The winners are chosen by an international 
jury, under the chairmanship of Czech director Jirí Menzel. For the 
first time, a jury sent by the International Federation of Film 
Critics will present the renowned "FIPRESCI-Award" this year.
Vera Tschechowa is being expected as guest of honour of the 
retrospective. The well-known actress and director is a member of the 
Cechov-Clan, to whom the goEast-Festival dedicates an exhibition at 
the Wiesbaden Museum. The festival is also able to present a special 
guest in the program "Highlights": Documentary filmmaker Herz Frank 
introduces his filmic essay FLASHBACK in person.

Am kommenden Mittwoch, dem 26. März, ist es soweit: zum dritten Mal 
findet goEast, das Festival des mittel- und osteuropäischen Films in 
Wiesbaden statt. Weit über 300 Fachbesucher (Journalisten, 
Regisseure, Verleiher, Produzenten, Politiker, Archivleiter) aus Ost 
und West haben sich angesagt, außerdem werden rund 6.000 
Besucherinnen und Besucher erwartet. In den Sektionen Wettbewerb, 
Hochschulwettbewerb, Symposium, Retrospektive und Highlights laufen 
insgesamt 107 lange und kurze Filme aus Mittel- und Osteuropa, 
darunter 15 aktuelle internationale und Deutschlandpremieren und eine 
Welturaufführung. Im Wettbewerb konkurrieren neun Spiel- und sechs 
Dokumentarfilme um die folgenden Preise: den mit 10.000 Euro 
dotierten Hauptpreis "Die goldene Lilie" für den besten Film, den mit 
7.500 Euro bestückten Preis der Stadt Wiesbaden für die beste Regie 
und den mit 10.000 Euro ausgestatteten Dokumentarfilmpreis der 
Gemeinnützigen Hertie-Stiftung. Über die Preisvergabe entscheidet 
eine international besetzte Jury unter dem Vorsitz des tschechischen 
Regisseurs Jirí Menzel. Zum ersten Mal in diesem Jahr wird zusätzlich 
eine vom internationalen Verband für Filmkritik entsandte Jury den 
renommierten "FIPRESCI-Preis" vergeben.
Als Ehrengast zur Retrospektive wird Vera Tschechowa erwartet. Die 
prominente Schauspielerin und Regisseurin gehört zum Cechov-Clan, dem 
das goEast-Festival eine Ausstellung im Museum Wiesbaden widmet. 
Einen besonderen Gast kann das Festival auch in der Reihe Highlights 
präsentieren: der Dokumentarfilmer Herz Frank stellt sein Filmessay 
FLASHBACK persönlich vor.
