WORLD OF ART 2002/2003
Seminar for writing on contemporary art
Lecture by Goran Djordjevic: History and Museum and Modern Art
SCCA-Ljubljana is running the World of Art program already since 1997. With The
course for curators it educates young future experts in the field of contemporary
art, while with a series of public lectures it sheds light upon the artistic
practices and artistic theories necessary for the understanding of the contemporary
artistic practice.
This year we are going to introduce a new component into the World of Art program: A
seminar for writing on contemporary art, which will fill the gap in the theoretical
and critical reflection and encourage writings on contemporary artistic practices.
The seminar is scheduled to start in autumn 2003 and will be composed of a year long
series of workshops and lectures.
The inaugurating event of the autumn seminar is going to take place already next
week. The lecture entitled History and Museum of Modern Art by Goran Djordjevic will
take place in Galerija Kapelica on Kersnikova 4 in Ljubljana on Tuesday, 28th January
2003 at 8 pm.
Goran Djordjevic, a former artist, is a doorman at the Salon de Fleurus in New York
for over ten years.
The story of the History and the Museum of Modern Art was told to Djordjevic already
years ago by one of the visitors of the Salon de Fleurus. Djordjević thought it was
interesting and thus he told it – as he remembered it – on numerous
occasions. This is a story of the origins of the history of modern 20th Century art
and the role played in it by the MOMA in New York and its first director Alfred Barr
jr. It originated in the mid 1930’s and after the second world war it was taken
to Europe and planted into its collective memory as a “natural” history
of modern art.
The lecture will take place in Serbian language!
You are most welcome to attend the lecture.
Entrance is free.

Director of the World of Art program
