The Invisible War

Ari Fleisher and Condolezza Rice correct president's grammar.
He said that "Senate was not interested in the security of the
American people" in a clear voice, with an angry face of Roman
Emperor that didn't get his way in the Senate and would see some
of those pesky Senators thrown to the lions in the Colosseum
pretty soon.

(I think Daschle made a mistake to reduce this comment as if it
had targetted just Democrats in Senate. Besides mentioning
Inouye, he could have also mention Dole, making his case more
bipartisan and therefore stronger.)

The national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, said tonight in an
interview on "The News Hour With Jim Lehrer": "The president said
that some senators had had a tendency to put special interests
ahead of national security, and he went on to praise Democrats
and Republicans who were pulling together on the security issues
that face the American people."

So, it is not all Senators, it is not even all Democrats in Senate, it
is just 'some Senators' - Bush is using the word "Senate" as a
shorthand for "some Senators" - ok, now we know. Thanks for the
clarification Ms. Rice. Maybe, Bush should name the next Space
Shuttle 'Condolezza Rice' as a sign of grattitude.

Btw, while we are watching Bush and Senate operetta, and while
strong words are exchanged between Colin Powell and certain
permanent members of the Security Council, the war against Iraq
is well underway: maybe it will be over before the Congress or UN
resolution, and then the return or no return of inspectors would not
be relevant any more anyway. On the other hand, that strategy
may fail and nobody would notice - with no American lifes lost.

U.S. air force continues to bomb targets in Iraq daily, and it is
revealed that Administration is prepared to spend money to arm
and train the "fifth column" in Iraq, so no Special Forces, or any
ground-troops, Congress approval or UN resolution would be
neccessary, indeed. The war may be over before it started. While
the media is focused on the loud blabbing of the "chicken hawks,"
the military is silently doing its job, perhaps, enjoying the lack of
media attention...
