Ein Projekt von Kuenstlerhaus Mousonturm, kuratiert von Station Rose im
Rahmen der Diskursreihe Vision Zukunft.

* Konzept.
Das Scheitern der Dotcoms sowie der Zusammenbruch des Internet-Hypes sind
laengst keine neuen Themen mehr. Net.art will ihren Weg in die Kunstmessen,
in Galerien und Museen finden, und kaum ein DJ wagt sich heute mehr ohne
Unterstuetzung eines VJs auf die Buehne. Retro scheint die Antwort der
Industrie, der Massenmedien und der Kulturindustrie zu sein. Doch Retro war
noch nie eine Antwort der Avantgarde.

Die in den 90er Jahren erhoffte klare, stringente Entwicklung, weg von
alten Gesetzmaessigkeiten hin zu einem neuen Niveau, wie etwa vom Kino zu
virtuellen Raeumen, von der CD zur CD-ROM und zur DVD, von interaktiver
Kunst zu Netzkunst, kann momentan nicht festgestellt werden. Es geht
vielmehr immer wieder um die an sich retroesquen Versuche, alte Inhalte in
neue Verpackungen, sowie neue Ausdrucksformen in alte Umgebungen zu
pressen. Bedeutet Retro also eine permanente Bedrohung, Stillstand? Welche
Netzwerke gibt es im Kunst/Musik/Netzkontext, die agieren und nicht nur
reagieren?

Auf diesem eintaegigen Kongress soll die Moeglichkeit zu einer
Bestandsaufnahme geschaffen werden, ein interdisziplinaerer Ueberblick
gewonnen, sowie kuenstlerische und theoretische Entwuerfe praesentiert und
diskutiert werden. Sowohl die "Realisierung des Virtuellen", in Form von
audio-visuellen Performances, Webcastings und der Installation wird
beruecksichtigt, als auch wissenschaftlich-theoretische Ansaetze.

audiovisuelle Performance, Netzkritik, Viabilitaet, Medien- und
Systemtheorie, Jugendkultur vs. Silverkids, das Retroeske vs. Recycling u.a.

* Installation  <Elektronisches Habitat>.
Station Rose installiert im Rahmen von "9.11. Netzwerke" eine Medien-Lounge,
die Moeglichkeit zum immersiven Ein- und Abtauchen, zum An/Entspannen, Surfen
und Navigieren bietet. Die Installation versteht sich als elektronisches
Habitat, in dem sich die Besucher des Symposions zwischen Foyer und
Vortragssaal versammeln, aufhalten, informieren und ausruhen koennen.
Immaterielle Visuals & Soundz verfliessen mit der verstofflichten
"Einrichtung" der Installation. Visuelle Samples, Destillate aus dem
audiovisuellen Fluss der Station Rose Performance am Abend, bilden die
modularen Bildbausteine der Installation.
BesucherInnen der installativen Lobby werden mit wechselnden
Video-Samples, Materialien aus dem Vortragssaal und live hereinkommenden
Streams versorgt. Die Architektur der Lounge besteht aus Projektionsflaechen,
Monitoren sowie speziell bedruckten Stoffen, welche, in hi-tech Produktion
erstellt, mit der Weichheit des Materials locken. Sounds und Visuals
durchfluten den Raum und erzeugen ein digital-fluides Ambiente, das in der
Einheit
aus Materialien und Informationen die modulare Einheit der Installation
bestimmt.

* Webcasting
STR wird den gesamten Kongress (14:00 - 2:00) in Echtzeit auf
www.stationrose.com STReamen. Live-STReams u.a. von pingfm.org aus der
Bauhausuniversitaet Weimar, von DFM.nu aus Amsterdam, sowie ein charmanter
LivemusikSTReam aus Innsbruck werden über den Symposonstag verteilt in die
Media-Lobby uebertragen.

* Gunafa Clubbing (ab ca. 23h)
Gunafa Clubbing, 1989 von Station Rose gestartet, war weltweit das erste
Performancekonzept, welches club culture mit audiovisueller Liveperformance
und simultaner Internetvernetzung zusammenfuehrte.
"Europe´s most unusual club" (London Sunday Times, 26.9.1993) wird auch
diesmal eine audiovisuelle Liveperformance von Station Rose beinhalten.
Live Webcasts, u.a.  aus Amsterdam, werden in die Performance
eingeflochten. Als Gast wird der Frankfurter Act Bizz_Circuits live zu
sehen und zu hoeren sein.

* Concept.
The failure of the dotcoms and the ebbing of the internet hype are no
longer anything new. Net.art wants to find its way into the art fairs,
galleries and museums and there is scarcely still a DJ today who would dare
go on stage without the support of a VJ.
 Retro seems to be the answer of industry, the mass media and the culture
industry. But retro has never been the answer.
The clear, stringent development away from the old laws of tendency to a
new plane such as from cinema to virtual spaces, from the CD to CD-ROM and
DVD, from interactive art to net art which was hoped for in the nineties
can no longer be discerned at the moment.

It is a matter rather of the repeatedly retroesque attempts to put old
contents into new packaging and new forms of expression into old
environments. Does retro thus mean a permanent threat, standstill? Which
networks exist in the context of art/music/net which act and do not merely
react?
At this one-day conference, the possibility of a new stocktaking is to be
created, an interdisciplinary overview won, and artistic and theoretical
drafts presented and discussed.

 theory, youth culture versus silver kids, retroesque versus recycling, etc.

* Installation <Elektronic Habitat>.
STR will construct a media lobby which offers the possibility of immersive
submerging, of excitement and relaxation, to surf and navigate. It is an
electronic habitat inviting to meet, hang out, gather information and
relax. Immaterial visuals and sounds flow together with the materialized
set-up of the installation. Visual samples and distillates from the flow of the
evening´s audiovisual STR-performance merge with the materialized set-up of
the installation. It is a living space which will exist for one day. It is
supposed to assist those attending to actually stay the distance of the
marathon since the symposium will start at 2p.m. and finish around two or
three in the morning.  Projectors and monitors and also exhibition objects
made of specially printed materials will be used. A P.A. system will fill the
space. The art is digital and fluid, the surroundings are material, created by
high-tech means of production. It entices with the softness of the materials.
Modular units define the installation. Art objects, individual pieces,
created by
STR especially for the conference, will be put on the art market afterwards.

* Webcasting.
STR will set up a STReaming studio on location to follow the conference
(2:00pm - 2:00am) in realtime at www.stationrose.com.
Live-streams from pingfm.org, Bauhausuniversity Weimar, DFM.nu, Amsterdam,
as well as a charming LivemusicSTReam from Innsbruck among others can be
experienced at the Media-Lobby throughout the congress.

* Gunafa Clubbing (on from 11pm)
Gunafa Clubbing, started in 1989 by Station Rose, was the first
performance-concept worldwide, combining club culture and audio-visual
live-performance with an online connection.
"Europe´s most unusual club" (London Sunday Times, 26.9.1993) will again
include Station Rose live.
Incoming live webcasts will be morphed into the evening.
