Vol. 51: The Power of Location part 3
by Ozaki Tetsuya

The "Emotional Site" exhibition that has been held as the closing
event of the Shokuryo Building in Saga-cho was extremely well
visited. More than 400 people flocked to the place on weekdays,
more than 1,000 on weekends, and on the final day the number of
visitors even reached 3,400. This adds up to a total of 13,500 in
nine days, and considering the location and the scale of the event,
this is quite an amazing number. The admission was 500yen, so the
total revenue must have amounted to around 6.75million yen. If this
was the place's regular income, it surely wouldn't have to close
down ... but such dreaming is like calculating how old the dead
child would be if it were alive..

The tenth guest in our column introducing creative Tokyo heads is
"Club King" director Kuwahara Moichi, a music and comedy producer
working in various media ranging from the "dictionary" free paper
and radio stations such as Shibuya FM, to Internet and even T-shirts.
Other activities include rescue operations helping the victims of
the Great Hanshin Earthquake and anti-war campaigns such as the
"Hisen (No War)" book.

Baba Masataka ("A" magazine) vol. 006

I'm attending a "workshop on how to do workshops" at the Kokuritsu
Seinen no Ie at the foot of Mount Akagi. The concept might sound
a bit abstract, and to put it simple it's about ways of thinking
and decision-making in the process of creating something new.
I'm participating because as the owner of "Workshopware Inc.," a
company providing spaces, furniture and other products for workshops,
I think I should know more about what workshops are actually good
for.

Tako Kite

This charity event opens its doors for the 12th time this November.
Theme of this year's exhibition is -- guess -- 'kites.' On display
and for sale are kites designed by more than 200 creators from Japan
and abroad, including Fukuda Shigeo, Kosaka Jun, Alan Chan, and
others, with proceeds from the sales going to the United Nations
Children's Fund. The scenery of kites all over the gallery's walls
alone will be an impressive sight, and for a standard price of
15,000yen you can even purchase the one you like most. To go and fly
that sounds like a nice way to spend New Year's this year, although
the kites are probably too good for that...
