        Moment after is all man, all self-consciousness.  By stepping out
        of animal and into man we created the moment after. Man is the first
        middle term that makes the dialectic possible.  Any movement that
        includes him then is inevitably bound to the dialectic.  This is
        Bataille's laughter in relation to Hegel.  Sovereignty lies completely
        outside duration and hence completely outside the dialectic while man
        lies squarely within it.
