(1) REALTOKYO Kansai Music Special
=================================================================

"There is no such thing as a 'scene' in Kansai, but there are many
interesting people doing interesting things, and somehow they all
know each other." (matsu & take / SPOTLIGHT)

So, what made REALTOKYO focus on the Kansai area and dedicate a
special of several volumes to its 'scene'? It's simply because so
many interesting, music-related things have happened in Osaka,
Kyoto or Kobe in the last year-and-a-half, and although the population
in Kansai, the amount of information, and the scales of events in the
area can't be compared with Tokyo, we think that this unique, creative
spirit deserves to be introduced to a broader audience.
This first effort also serves as a warm-up for a big Tokyo special
we are presently working on.

Part two will come in late March.

January 8 (Tue)

Yesterday was the first working day this year, but since I've had
meetings and other things to do since the 4th, I'm already busy.
Since the end of last year they've been putting posters of the Fuji
TV drama "Koi no chikara (Power of Love)," which was mainly shot in
our office and will be shown from January 10, on our walls. I'm a
bit embarrassed, but happy, and it often happens that friends comment,
"hey, isn't that your office?" It's funny how Tsutsumi Shinichi,
who plays the leading part, is standing slightly on tiptoe to look
taller on the poster.

Ise Yuichi & RE [ ] Responsive Environments: "LIVE"

The history of mankind and its culture(s) started with drums, and
minimal forms of contemporary electronic music that are reduced
to nothing but clicks and beats make up a perfect bridge between
rhythm-focused culture then and now. Rhythm-focused events we get
to see nowadays can mostly be classified under either 'traditional'
styles using real, sometimes authentic instruments, or something
like minimal techno, that use no instruments, but technology instead.
It is the latter that has established visuals to go with the sounds
in live events, so as a percussion performance with computer-animated
visuals, this one promises to be kind of a new type of crossover.
RE [ ] is a four-piece unit that creates real-time images, and as
this is a technique we know, for example, from Silicom's shows, I'm
curious to see how this works in combination with man-made rhythms.
