Karl-Sczuka-Prize 2002

The Karl-Sczuka-Prize for works of radio art is awarded annually by
Südwestrundfunk (SWR), the ARD-member organisation in the Southwest
of Germany. The competition for this year has been opened and
everyone of you is welcome to send entries to us in accordance to the
guidelines till June 15 2002 (arrival at Baden-Baden).

The Karl-Sczuka-Prize will be awarded in 2002 the for the 41st time.
According to the regulations, it is awarded for "the best production
of a work of radio art using musical material and structures in an
acoustic performance". The prize winning work is chosen by an
independent five-member jury comprised of experts and critics, who
are not employees of a radio organisation: Klaus Ramm (chairman),
Monika Lichtenfeld, Johann-Georg Schaarschmidt, Heinrich Vormweg and
Christina Weiss.

The Karl-Sczuka-Prize amounts to 12,500 Euro. In addition to the
prize itself the jury can award a support grant of 5,000 Euro to an
applicant for the Karl Sczuka Prize.

The price is offered publicly and is open not only to radio
organisations. It is open to the public: authors, composers,
producers and production teams (hereinafter referred to as
originators) are all eligible and welcome to submit their
applications if they accord with the regulations. Works already
entered are not eligible again in subsequent years. An originator's
work may be submitted on his or her behalf by the producing company
(for instance, a radio organization).

There is no limitation as to length, and even short pieces of radio
art are accepted if they comply with the prize criteria for "works"
quoted above. In case the work has already been broadcasted or
published in other media, e.g. on CD, the date of the first broadcast
or publication must not be earlier than June 1 of 2001. Even
unbroadcasted productions are welcome. Till the present moment only
multi-optional media like CD-ROM or websites are excluded from the
Sczuka competition.

The recording of the production (DAT-cassette, CD, audiocassette or
broadcasting tape) should be accompanied by:
a) a declaration by the originator that he or she is presenting the
work for the Sczuka Prize and that he or she holds all rights
exclusively;
b) otherwise, a written agreement of all persons who have
participated in producing the work, or the agreement of the producer,
if it is he or she who holds the rights to the work;
c) a manuscript or, if this is unavailable, a synopsis (six copies);
d) a short biography and a list of all works of the originator (six copies);
e) details of the place and date of production and if applicable, the
date of its first radio broadcast or publication. The date of the
first broadcast or publication of the work must not be earlier than
June 1st of the preceding year.

Applicants are asked to submit their productions by June 15 2002
(arrival at Baden-Baden) in a copy ready for radio broadcast along
with the other requested material to:
