thinking and doing Documenta11


Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, dear Collegues,

Today, we would like to introduce a series of public lectures,
discussions, and presentations, which will unfold in four segments from
February to May 2002, and which are organized in cooperation with the
Art Academy in Kassel.

The series thinking and doing Documenta11, conceived by Documenta11
Co-curators Ute Meta Bauer and Sarat Maharaj, together with Documenta11
Education Project Advisors Oliver Marchart and Karin Rebbert, aims to
render more transparent the conceptual and organizational processes of
Documenta11. It comprises of several forums, where the central concerns
of the four Documenta11 Platforms will be revisited, and the historical,
social, and institutional conditions for contemporary artistic
production are further discussed. Individual artists of the Documenta11
will present their work in a series hosted by the Art Academy in Kassel.
A brief summary of the individual topics of the four segments can be
found as an enclosure.
This series of public lectures also functions as one element of the
education/training for the members of the Documenta11 Visitor Service.
The future guides will further discuss the topics of the exhibition in
separate seminars.


Dr. Karin Stempel, Dean of the Art Academy in Kassel, Okwui Enwezor,
Artistic Director of Documenta11, Ute Meta Bauer, Co-Curator of
Documenta11, Johannes Krug, CEO of the company  x:hibit, Katharina
Schenk, x:hibit, and project coordinator Documenta11 Visitor Service,
and Karin Rebbert, project coordinator Documenta11 Education, will be
answering your questions today.
