REALTOKYO Editor-in-chief, Ozaki Tetsuya reports on a lecture by
author Ikezawa Natsuki.

On January 15 I visited L'Institut Franco-Japonais, where Ikezawa
Natsuki was giving a lecture... The event was titled, "Today's War,
Saint-Exupery's War," and Ikezawa talked about the French author
and pilot who lost his life during a reconnaissance flight in WW2.
Throwing in numerous concrete examples, Ikezawa illustrated the
differences between the style of making war in the times of
Antoine de Saint-Exupery, and the variations of 'war' as they are
happening in the present, from the Gulf War to the recent 'air
strikes' on Afghanistan.

Back from Paris, Sugatsuke Masanobu inspects what the local fashion
scene has in store for this year.

November 3 (Sat)

I spend the Saturday afternoon in the office, replying to mails
and meeting people that come to apply for a part-time job.
At 8:00pm the Vaughan Alexander show starts. There is a bar counter
set up at the venue where guests can have a drink before the show,
which is a rather unusual concept in Japan. In his show the designer
presents what he is known for, sexy kitsch, whereas the quality is
noticeably getting better. The idea to turn all models into female
giants by putting them in ultra-high heeled shoes is funny.

Life During Wartime
Special event to commemorate the opening of "Apocalypse Now Redux"
January 26 (Sat), 9:00pm @ Ebisu Milk

Have you seen "Apocalypse Now Redux"? Without any intention to
flatter the sponsors, this movie is absolutely recommended. A
certain "Gen," who happens to be putting together the Japanese
edition of REALTOKYO's mail magazine, fell so in love with this
film that he single-handedly organized a screening event, titled
"Life During Wartime." Artists to appear include Ukawa Naohiro,
Nakahara Masaya, DCPRG, Asano Tadanobu... it almost looks as if
there just had to be the right opportunity for such selected artists
to come together for an event. Who knows how many more times such
an astronomical line-up can be witnessed within the century, so go
and see this one.
