Moon Radio Internet Broadcast Channel
Date: 2nd + 3rd March 2002
Theme: Moon Radio Science Weekend

We would like to invite artists/film and video producers to submit a
proposal for the launch of Moon Radio a new Internet broadcast channel,
hosted by Active Ingredient.

Submission Deadline: Friday 25th January 2002
Results will be available: Tuesday 31st January 2002

Moon Radio is an experimental broadcast channel, transmitting live art,
performance, sound and on demand artists film and video.

Since it began, Moon Radio has worked with artists to develop live
performances specifically for the web as well as offering a professional
streaming service, webcasting conferences, discussions and festivals. Moon
Radio broadcasts from bedrooms, cinemas and working men's clubs and is the
host to toilet philosophers, amateur rock stars and would be rocket
engineers, as well as a host of others.

Moon Radio has been supported by East Midlands Arts, the Arts Council of
England and East Midlands Media Initiative

The theme:
This March sees the second themed weekend from Active Ingredient's online
broadcasting channel 'Moon Radio' this time looking at the notion of science
on TV, from Tomorrows World through to the Tomorrow People.

The Commissions:
We are offering 4 commissions for live pieces or work that explores the live
elements of the Internet, as part of the Moon Radio weekend. We are looking
for a broad range of work from performance lecture to sci-fi spoof and all
points inbetween to view the way science is presented to us on tv, asking
questions about the dumbing up and down of popular science and examining the
cultural impact of a world where alien/human hybrids seem as feasible as a
cure for the common cold. We are also looking for short films and video
pieces to distribute as part of the weekend as on-demand works.

General Submissions:
We are seeking work that is made for / or explores Internet broadcast and
artists looking for new ways to distribute their work. We are funded for
four commissions only and therefore are also looking for work that is
already made or funded and that is looking for additional channels of
distribution, this includes film, video, performance, animations.

Brief:

Looking at the context of TV, and how broadcast transmissions are effected
when the data is squeezed down a low connection and played through a small
window on a computer screen. Playing with the excitement of bouncing your
image and voice to the US and then all over the world.

We are looking for work that is live or addresses the live possibilities of
the web, that has elements of interaction and works with the web as a
potential connection with the audience.

The artists are expected to have interest in the medium of internet
broadcast, but it is not necessary to have experience of working with
internet streaming technology.

Moon Radio aims to show radical work that relates to popular culture and has
integrity and vision. We are looking for diverse work that comes from
different perspectives and artists from different backgrounds, and that will
be accessible to international audiences.

Although the main audience for the channel will be specialized and targeted
at the contemporary art / new work sector the channel aims to build
audiences beyond this sector, using the medium to attract new audiences,
potentially a youth audience, through the current interest in creative and
innovative activity on the web.

This is an opportunity to distribute and show your work via the web - access
an international audience, have your work projected simultaneously in arts
venues and bars across the UK, and experiment with a new media in a
supportive environment.

If you would like to submit a proposal visit the website www.moonradio.co.uk
or send us a proposal with examples of your work.
