Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, dear Colleagues,
A happy new year to you all.
The fifth platform of Documenta11, the exhibition in Kassel, will open
in five months. Details about the proceedings and the accreditation for
the press conference, which will take place June 6, 2002, 12 noon, will
be sent to you in the beginning of April 2002. The list of participating
artists will be released in May.
Five exhibition venues in Kassel will present works by over 100 artists
from all over the world. In addition to the Fridericianum, the
Kulturbahnhof, the documenta-hall, and the Karlsaue, Documenta11 will
also be staged in the former Binding brewery building on Hafenstrasse,
not far from the Fridericianum. This is the first time documenta is
using an industrial building, doubling the exhibition space available.
The architects of the exhibition will be introduced in February 2002.
The third platform of Documenta11, Creolité and Creolization, will start
January 12 in St.Lucia. Due to organizational reasons, this platform
will take the form of a closed workshop. The results of the platform
will be published as part of the publication series of Documenta11.
Videos of the platform will be avilable on the internet in the second
half of February at www.documenta.de.
On January 29, 2002, we, together with our partners x:hibit and the Art
Academy in Kassel, will host a press conference to introduce the public
series of lectures and the Education Program of Documenta11, both part
of our Documenta11 Visitors Service.
The fourth platform of Documenta11, Under Siege: Four African Cities,
Freetown, Johannesburg, Kinshasa, Lagos, will take place in Lagos from
March 15 - 20, 2002, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institute, Munich,
and CODESRIA (Council for the Development of Social Science Research in
Africa), Dakar.
