Not borrowing ideas from others this time but tracing the trajectory of Ellen Pau, as a first generation video artist which also reflects the development of video art in Hong Kong. It aims to enhance the discussion and understanding of Hong Kong new media and the creative environment among producers, critics and the public.

Video Cafe February: fAf 15th Anniversary Screening goes to Videotage Hong Kong

Fourteen culturally rich works, 14 young directors from across the globe - all in 60 minutes, that's what you can expect from the fineArt forum (fAf) 15th Anniversary Travelling Screening Program.

Screening at Videotage Hong Kong on 21 February 2002, the programme features work by film-makers from Australia, France, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan.

Film-maker Raewyn Turner (New Zealand) said: "Using stage lighting in performances and TV appearances, I made translations of musical phrases of songs in coloured light; to the loudest music, I added the deepest saturated colour. The translations of the lyrics of John Lennon's "Imagine"naturally followed this path, of making a secondary art from another. I am pleased that my work was selected and will be seen more widely."

Turner's "Imagine" and others in the program represent the culturally diverse world we live in, and how young artists view and reflect in today's times. Curator and fAf Editor-in-Chief Nisar Keshvani said:

"To celebrate our 15th birthday, fAf wanted to stray away from the digital realm and reach out to people from everywhere through a common medium images. We received a number of entries, but we selected the 14 works because the directors were relatively new to the field, and they each display their "home"culture and a piece of themselves through their work."

fAf is the longest running arts magazine on the Internet, and this new initiative sees the publication take a step towards showcasing global film art and media trends.

The program premiered at the Brisbane Multimedia Art Asia Pacific Festival (MAAP) and Digital Media Festival (Manila) in October 2001, and travels to various global venues before closing in Singapore later this year. Hong Kong is the fourth international showcase venue in the series.

Launched in 1987, fAf is the pioneer online news service dedicated to the provision of news and information for the global arts and technology community. It aims to keep its readers informed of achievements, developments and opportunities relevant to the new media arts community. It can be viewed at http://www.fineartforum.org
