Lovebytes is an international platform for artists working at the creative
edge of new technology. This is a unique opportunity to see some of the
most innovative contemporary art from around the world.
Sheffield plays host to three days of special events including live music
performances, panel sessions, artists' presentations, interactive
multi-media installations, film screenings and creative technology workshops.
The festival kicks off on the Thursday 14 March with a one-day Film
Festival Symposium. A national event run by the British Film Institute
aimed at people involved in running film and media festivals. This is
followed by two days of events with creative technology workshops and
exhibitions running throughout.

The exhibition programme includes UK premieres and special commissions of
outstanding international new media work by: the Butler Brothers (UK),
Wolfgang Muench & Furukawa Kiyoshi (Germany/Japan), Haruo Ishii (Japan),
Steve Hawley (UK), Freeform & Matt Pyke (UK), Alex Peverett (UK) and People
Like Us (UK).

Lovebytes is renowned for its innovative live electronic music and
multi-media performance programme, this year is no exception with an
exclusive international line-up including Yasunao Tone (Japan), Massimo
(Italy), Robert Lippok (Germany), Scanner (UK), Freeform (UK), People Like
Us (UK), Baby Ford (UK), Gescom (UK) and Vector Djs (UK).

Films include a special preview of Richard Linklater's Waking Life, early
digital and cybernetic cinema from The Whitney Brothers, Lillian Shwartz,
Hans Richter and others. There will also be a series of debates and special
film compilations featuring net based moving image work and fan films.

creative technology presentations and workshops .

Artists will present digital video work and discuss the creative potential
of DVD. Throughout the festival there will be free hands-on workshops with
the Lego Studio Animation System and the latest versions of Apple's Final
Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, iMovie and iDVD software.
