[TW] Direct Action <<>> US Vetoes Resolution Against Israel on UN Killings

No, I have no evidence, that there is any new policy related to this
incident. Only the old policy of Israeli military to arbitrary shoot and
kill people. And that one, true, is already condemned by numerous
UN resolutions. I agree, therefore, that passing another resolution
would be redundant and wasteful.

Also, there appears to be no evidence that this was a deliberate
shooting of British subjects. Probably, Israeli military did not have
any idea that those two guys were British. However, they were UN
workers. And the Israeli military could perhaps identify them, or at
least should have attempted to identify them as such before
opening fire.

This kind of 'collateral damage' is unacceptable. And UN has the
right to defend itself by, at least, condemning such action (since
the UN has no means to bomb Israel into stone age as a form of
retaliation).

Also, this shows Israel as a particularly unsafe place for a traveler.
Perhaps, this is the reason why the Betlehem Hotel Association
reports that onle 1 in 5 of Betlehem hotels expect to be open this
Christmas (chances of getting a room in one of Betlehem hotels for
Christmas were 0 in 10 in year 2000 and 9 in 10 in year 2001...).

Perditio tua ex tu, o Israel!

As reported here in the Uk it appeared that there was no real
evidence that this was a deliberate killing of a British subject and
certainly there was an absence of any reported evidence of any
policy relating to the incident, hence whilst careless actions and or
wrong action at a local low level is to be deplored it is hardly an
event demanding a UN resolution, however since one was called for
is there any evidence to the contary; do you have any such
evidence? frank

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United States
vetoed a
Syrian-sponsored U.N. Security Council
resolution that would have
condemned Israel for the recent killings of
a Briton and two Palestinians
working for the United Nations (news - web
sites) in the West Bank and
Gaza.

On the other hand, weren't NATO countries supposed to be protective of each other citizens? How can the US tolerate killings of British citizens by Israeli military, and then even veto a UN resolution condeming that!? What kind of ally is that????

Negroponte thought that this resolution is not conducive to the Mid- East peace process - I think
his veto is not conducive to that process, which is going to be proven shortly, by its continuous
failure.

Since 1972 US vetoed 30 resolutions on Israel. The hypocrisy represents the
single biggest obstacle to Middle East peace.
