True People's Celebration

I am writing this while my blood is boiling :-) Before I knew it one
staggering outdoor
event after another is being held this summer. I fold my arms and think
about which
one to see - and this is part of the fun of it all. On the other hand,
well, there's no time
to fold arms :-) So, you're a music fan? You're after everything related to
the 'modern
jazz' (I'm not talking about what people back in the 1950s used to call so)
scene?
Then it will be easy for you to make your choice. Nothing on earth, not
even some
duties that force you to go and visit Kamakura, should keep you from
reserving your
seat at TPC!

Contemporary Art and Summer Vacations

I went to Obihiro, Hokkaido, where an event called "Demeter" (subtitle: Tokachi
Contemporary Art Exhibition) is taking place under the total direction of
Serizawa
Takashi. The event features installations by Cai Guo Qiang, Yoko Ono, Cine
Nomad,
Iwai Shigeaki, Kim Sooja, Casagrande & Rintala, Wolfgang Winter & Bertold
Horbelt,
Kawamata Tadashi, Ingo Gunther, and nIALL (Nakamura Masato, Kishi Kenta,
Tanaka Haruaki), displayed at the Obihiro horse racing track.

The Matthew Herbert Big Band

On this summer's calendar you'll find three volumes of live music events with
Matthew Herbert. Vol. 3 features members of Matmos, and is certainly worth a
recommendation. But even more than this, Vol. 2 featuring guest artists Jamie
Liddell and Max Tundra, whom Herbert recently heaps with praises, sounds like
a sensational event. Tundra, whose new album will be released soon, is a
musical
warrior who fights on more than ten different instruments in order to
achieve the
desired sound. Finally, the "Matthew Herbert Big Band" will gather a total
of 19 (!)
musicians including vocalist Dani on stage.
