THE ERYK SALVAGGIO
MUSEUM OF MODERN LIVING
~ presents with astonishment ~
An International Competition
~ arranged by ~
The University of Denver, Colorado
Digital Media Studies Program
~ without the foreknowledge of said museum ~
With the Following Rules and Guidelines
~ for participation therein ~
In response to an influential contribution to Rhizome.org by Eryk
Salvaggio,
Dr. Trace Reddell in Digital Media Studies at the University of Denver,
Colorado
has issued a general call for participation in a new DMS art competition
entitled:
"DIGITAL SALVAGE v.1: A Response to Salvaggio's
Six Rules Towards A New Internet Art."
The contest requires contestants to submit a Web-based digital project
that adheres
to the "Six Rules Towards a New Internet Art" that Mr. Salvaggio
recently posted
on Rhizome.org ( http://rhizome.org/object.rhiz?3236 ).
Any form of artistic project is acceptable, so long as it exists on the
Web and
fulfills each rule. Rather than viewing Salvaggio's rules in the manner
of a manifesto,
this competition takes the game-playing spin: rules not as part of a
revolutionary
command ("out with old, in with the new!") but as a guideline around
which strategies
can form within a localized and temporary setting.
A panel of peer reviewers will help select the top three works, and all
entries will be
featured in a new net.art and media theory site that is scheduled for
launch this spring.
The competition is open to any interested participants. Only one entry
is allowed per
participant. Contest entries must be available on the Internet by May
31, 2002. Questions
and URLs should be submitted to:
treddell at du.edu
