Interactive Arena Presents a Discussion With Stephen Wilson
Monday, April 15
The Canadian Film Centre's Interactive Arena presents a discussion on the
intersections of art, science and technology with author/artist Stephen
Wilson. In his latest book, Information Arts (MIT Press, 2001), Wilson
surveys artists, theorists and researchers working in advanced fields
such
as biology, medicine, physics, artificial life, telepresence, body
sensors,
artificial intelligence and information systems.
Wilson proposes that a new breed of contemporary artists can engage
science
and technology not just to adopt the vocabulary and gizmos, but to
explore
and comment on the content, agendas and possibilities. Thus, the artist
can
be an active partner in determining the direction of research.
